Counting Down until School Starts

Hello all!

Hope all of you had a restful summer and ready to jump into the 2015-2016 school year!  I am very excited to come back after a very busy summer of refining myself as a music educator.

Right after school finished up, I started an intensive week-long conducting workshop that was hosted by the University of Hawaii.  Under the direction of Dr. Jeffery Boeckmann (University of Hawaii) and Professor Timothy Salzman (University of Washington), I was able to refine my conducting skills and rehearsal techniques while working with a laboratory band which was made up of community members and current University of Hawaii students.

After that workshop, I started teaching a 4-week enrichment band class at Monalua Middle School.  This was a team effort from me and the two band directors that are placed there throughout the school year.  Through the two classes, Beginning Band and Intermediate Band, both classes put on a concert to demonstrate all their hard work.  We hope that in the future that we can create joint concerts and joint tours to increase camaraderie in the band community.

Outside of preparing for the school year, I have also been called into the Royal Hawaiian Band as a substitute player on clarinet.  This has been a fun experience as I get to brush up on my clarinet skills.  Who knows, maybe you might see me performing with them on weekends at a mall near you!

I look forward to sharing with you all my plans for this upcoming school year at our Music Department Open House sometime in August.  Please be on the lookout for an announcement that will be made in class as well as a flyer that will be sent home with the students.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

This is Ms. Fujitani's Blog!  I'm testing this out to see if this can be a better means of communication.
